Buzlex Blood Bank for Dogs

Just like humans, dogs in critical medical situations often require blood donations. Unfortunately, canine blood supplies are perpetually low and always in high demand.
Buzlex Foundation is addressing this shortage by building a reliable blood supply for our veterinary hospitals and local partners. However, we can’t do it alone—we need canine blood donors to join us in this life-saving mission.

Become a Furry Hero To Save lives

The first step towards saving dogs in your community is to see if your dog can be a blood donor.Ensuring the health and safety of both our donor dogs and recipients is our top priority. Here are the criteria your dog must meet to become a blood donor
Age and Weight
  • Dogs must be between 1 and 8 years old.
  • Dogs should weigh at least 25 kg (55 lbs).
Health Requirements
  • Donors must be in good general health.
  • Dogs should be free from any chronic or serious illnesses.
  • Up-to-date on vaccinations, including rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and leptospirosis.
  • Free from any infectious diseases or parasites.
Temperament
  • Dogs should have a calm and friendly demeanor.
  • Able to stay still and calm during the donation process.
Diet and Lifestyle
  • Donors should be on a balanced diet and not be on any special diets that could affect blood quality.
  • Dogs should not be on any medications other than preventatives for fleas, ticks, and heartworms.
Testing and Screening
  • All potential donors will undergo a thorough health screening, including blood tests, to ensure they are suitable candidates for donation.
  • Regular follow-up screenings to maintain donor health and eligibility.

Initial Screening
A comprehensive health check and blood test.
Appointment Scheduling
We will arrange donation appointments at times that are convenient for you.
Donation Session
The actual donation process is quick and safe, typically taking about 30 minutes.
Post-Donation Care
After donating, your dog will be monitored briefly and given treats and water.
